How Sweet! GGG and All the Waffles You Can Eat!

All You Can Eat Waffles and Comedy! Upstairs: Local Genius Society, The Amazon and the Milksop, Girls Girls Girls Improvised Musicals

The 10th annual WaffleFest is a three-day improv comedy festival featuring the best of the Austin Improv scene, with ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT waffles at every show!

Improv comedy in Austin is growing exponentially, and it can be hard to get a handle on everything that’s going on.

Fortunately, WaffleFest features 26 different troupes from all the improv camps in town, all united under one sticky banner of free waffles.

And it’s not just waffles, either. Included in the admission is all the toppings you could want- butter, whipped cream, strawberries, syrup, chocolate sauce, and Nutella.

Girls Girls Girls Featured in The Austin Chronicle

In the September 2nd issue of The Austin Chronicle, Robert Faires wrote a feature piece on Girls Girls Girls and the process of what goes on in an improviser’s head during a performance. Luckily, the excellent Boys of Summer show with Jason Finkelman was the focus of the article, entitled:  ”Be Prepared: The secret to improv’s split-second successes is in years of training

The piece featured interviews with GGG members Shana Merlin and Kacey Samiee, as well as show photos and videos. The article was part of the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival publicity.

New York City– Here GGG Comes!

Girls Girls Girls is proud to announce we have been accepted into the New York Musical Improv Festival, November 1 – 6 at the Magnet Theater in New York City. The ladies are so pumped to get to see musicals, improvised and scripted, in the capital of musical theater, NYC. Because of the generous Kickstarter support from our fans, we’ll get to perform our show alongside musical improv troupes from all over the country. The good news is our excellent musical improviser, Jason Laney, is already there!

Normally each improv town has a couple of musical troupes. We have no idea what it will be like to have tons of musical improvisers all in the same place. We’re guessing it’s like band camp and theater camp and nerd camp all combined into one! And we’ll be bringing our experience and knowledge back to Austin when we provide a free community workshop or event in 2012. Stay tuned for us to announce our show dates!

Out of Bounds Comedy Festival: Thursday September 1st at 7:30pm at The Hideout Downstairs

Girls Girls Girls Improvised Musicals

Austin, TX

Girls Girls Girls is Austin, Texas’ oldest all-female musical theater improvisation troupe. Their specialty is creating full-length improvised Broadway musicals from a single audience suggestion. In other words the Girls and their live musicians make up the songs, dances, characters and stories to create one complete, blow-your-socks-off musical…and they do it completely on the fly.

Girls Girls Girls Improvised Musicals has been an artistic collective since September 2002. They have had the pleasure of performing in festivals in Minneapolis, Seattle, Honolulu, Atlanta, Dallas and, of course, our home of Austin, Texas. GGG has taken the honor of Best of the Week of Frontera Fest (ATX), as well as recognition as Austin’s Best Improv Troupe in the Austin Chronicle. GGG conceived and produced the Ladies Are Funny Festival (L.A.F.F.), a comedy showcase for women from around the world.

Previous Festival Appearances:
- Austin Chronicle’s Best of Austin: Winner: Best Improv Group
- Frontera Fest: Winner Best of the Fest, Best of the Week, Wildcard
- Austin Improv Collective: Best Improv Troupe
- Official Headliner: Out of Bounds Improv Festival 2008
- Official Headliner: Twin Cities Improv Festival 2009

Cast:James Rone, Tom Reed

Ringo

Minneapolis, MN

Ringo is James Rone, Tom Reed and a guitar combining forces to create tight-harmonied acoustic songs and hilarious scenes based on an audience suggestion. It’s what would happen if you put your favorite bromance in a blender with the Indigo Girls and pressed the “improv” button.

Ringo combines musical and comedic prowess to deliver an innovative brand of improv that delights audiences on stages across Minneapolis. The members of Ringo perform regularly at Comedy Sportz, Brave New Workshop and Huge Theater and in leading roles in musical theater and hit soul music ensemble, The Robinson Crusoe Organization.

6th Annual Boys of Summer Featuring Jason Laney

For the Boys of Summer grand finale the tables are turned. The fabulous Jason Laney is coming out from behind the piano to star onstage, singing and dancing along with his troupemates in GGG. You might have seen this Berklee College of Music graduate in Le Sexy or as the musical director for the Coldtowne Sketch Show. He’s known for classical interpretations of Lady Gaga songs, being a great cook, and looking smoking hot in pink and black.  We interviewed this marvelous maestro so you would have something to dream about until he debuts with GGG on Friday August 26th at 10pm at the Hideout Theater.

6th Annual Boys of Summer Featuring Deano Jones

The fourth fantastic fella in GGG’s Boys of Summer is the graphic design god, Deano Jones. You might have seen him in The Intentions, The Andersons, The Violet Underbelly or as Batman in Holy 1960′s Batman, Batman! Or maybe you have been listening to his new album The Road To San Antone. He’s known for being high energy, a hard worker, a quick study, and a classy gentleman to boot.  We interviewed this gregarious guy so you would have something to dream about until he debuts with GGG on Friday August 19th at 10pm at the Hideout Theater.

GGG: When was your first kiss?

DJ: My first girlfriend was in the 6th grade. We passed notes everyday for a year and while on a field trip, she (“Heather”) asked me “Are you ever gonna kiss me?”. So I did on the school bus.

GGG: Who’s your celebrity crush?

DJ: Christina Hendricks.

GGG: What’s a girl fashion trend that confuses you?

DJ: Maxi dresses. They’re like an American burka!

GGG: What’s the girly movie you secretly love?

DJ: Not so much the movies but I unapologetically love Sex and the City. At least the first couple seasons before Carrie was an intolerable beyotch! (snap fingers in a “Z”)Who would play you in the movie version of your life? I’d like to have Vince Vaughn or Russell Crow, but they’d probably get Steve Buscemi or Don Knotts.

GGG: If you could trade places with anyone in the world for one day, who would it be?

DJ:Kelly Slater. World’s greatest surfer. Babe magnet.

GGG: What’s your worst habit?

DJ: I sometimes blurt out thoughts as they pop into my head without filtering. Often inappropriate or politically incorrect. Kind of a mini-tourettes condition.

GGG: What’s your favorite musical, song, or artist?

DJ: The Clash, with London Calling as my desert island disc. But to keep in theme with musicals, Meatloaf’s “Bat out of Hell” has been a dream of mine to perform as a musical or try write a comparable modern version (if that’s EVEN POSSIBLE!!!!)

GGG: What did you dream about last night?

DJ: Random silent film type scenes and images. I’ve been obsessing over making a silent film styled music video.

GGG: What color is your toothbrush?

DJ: Well, I have several. My primary is blue and white and resides in the shower. I multitask.

6th Annual Boys of Summer Featuring Jason Finkelman

The third terrific talent in GGG’s Boys of Summer is the Hebrew Hunk, Jason Finkelman. You might have seen him in The Intentions, but even if you just saw him around town this recent Miami transplant is always muy caliente! He has been performing improv and sketch comedy for over 10 years, beginning with Theater Strike Force at the University of Florida, and thereafter with Just The Funny in Miami and South Beach’s first and only improv/sketch comedy troupe Model Citizens. He’s known for big characters, a silly sense of humor and in his past life, rocking out in his own band. We interviewed this hot hombre so you would have something to dream about until he debuts with GGG on Friday August 12th at 10pm at the Hideout Theater.

GGG: When was your first kiss?

JF: 1992 Camp Firewood Sadie-Hawkins dance.  Rachael Zuckerberger and I were slow-dancing to our favorite Vanessa Williams song, “Save the best for last,” when we closed our eyes, opened our mouths, and began to suck face.  Our parents picked us up from camp the next morning and I never saw her again.

GGG: Who’s your celebrity crush?

JF:  Tiffany Amber Thiessen, duh!  Isn’t she every guys dream girl?  Complete package.  She’s such a strong  black female role-model.

GGG: What’s a girl fashion trend that confuses you?

JF: All these chicks wearing scrunchies on their wrists. It’s everywhere.  Get with the program, people! Scrunchies belong in your hair, or around your neck, like chokers (sexy!), not your wrists!

GGG: What’s the girly movie you secretly love?

JF:  The Cutting Edge.  Its what got me into figure skating.  And leotards.

GGG: Who would play you in the movie version of your life?

JF: Jonathan Taylor Thomas, probably, because he’s the only one who can accurately represent my well-conditioned hair (thanks Pert!) and my struggles as teen a pop-icon

GGG: If you could trade places with anyone in the world for one day, who would it be?

JF: I would trade spots with the ultimate U.S. fighting machine, Jean Claude Van Damme.  I would stop all wars with my fists and pecs, and retire to my lair to dream of karate ballet.

GGG: What’s your worst habit?

JF: Train hopping for travel.  Every little effort helps in saving our environment, ya know?

GGG:  What’s your favorite musical, song, or artist?

JF:  Hmmmm…Vanessa Williams “Save the best for last?”  [Jason begins sobbing uncontrolably, falls to his knees, looks up to the sky]  Where are you Rachael Zuckerberger?!?  We’ll be together soon, my sweet.  [Jason collects himself].  Wait, what was your question?  Oh my favorite music?  Probably anything from the P.M. Dawn catalog.

GGG: What did you dream about last night?

JF: I was hitchiking across the country with Fred Savage and Jenny Lewis, using my videogame skills to hustle people out of money.  Along the way, I encountered a renegade biker, who bestowed upon me a sort of “Power Glove” which gave me incredible super video game playing powers.  My powers were so awesome that I was invited to and won the world video game tournament in Reno.  I woke up from my dream and it felt like I was in the most amazing movie ever…I felt like a Wizard!

GGG: What color is your toothbrush?

JF: Glow in the dark sparkle.  I’ve never changed my toothbrush.  It’s my lucky charm.
